Urban Pagan Rituals

Traditional Wiccan rituals are performed in privacy and in the wilderness. These two things are both in short supply in urban settings. Most Urban Pagans have to choose to compromise between tradition and practicality. How does one find enough privacy in the city for this? Is it possible to find safe areas of "natural" environment for Sabbats? What about that whole skyclad thing?

Most Pagans today face the difficult choice of compromising "ancient" traditions and facing arrest and/or persecution. Not for practicing their faith, but for breaking public decency and/or trespassing laws. City life is hedged around with rules, laws and community standards that make the Traditional Pagan ways difficult or even impossible.

There are those who are exceptionally vocal about the need for tradition, and I cannot fault them for that. But there is also a need for evolution and change. Wicca is only about six decades old. Other forms of modern Paganism are even younger, whatever ancient traditions or faiths they might be based upon. Only some of the tribal faiths are older, and even they shift and adapt to the times while keeping the core of the faith intact.

So, what have you done to adapt your rituals to the urban setting? Do you feel that this compromises your beliefs in any way? How are the core values of your beliefs effected?

How do you adapt traditional rituals to urban settings?

Even amoung those who are called by Paganism, not everyone is suited to rural life. How do you have to alter traditional rituals to account for the urban environment? What difficulties have you had while performing rituals in your city?
