Selections from The Wolf and Raven Grimoire

For those who don't know, a Grimoire is a book of spells. It is sometimes called a Book of Shadows. Links to all spells posted to The Urban Pagan will be collected in The List of Spells below.

Many traditions believe in disguising the meanings of their spells. You can sometimes find medieval and/or Renaissance books of magic filled with mysterious symbols, riddles and partial spells. This was done partly to protect their "trade secrets", but also to protect themselves from prosecution.

Since witchcraft is no longer illegal in most countries, I do not believe this practice is necessary today. All spells I post will include full and complete instructions, as clearly explained as possible.

In the Wolf and Raven tradition, the Book of Shadows includes philosophy and rituals as well as spells. The spells below are from The Wolf and Raven Book of Shadows. Whenever possible, I have credited the source where I originally found them, but as I have collected these over the past 20 years, many times the source has simply been lost.

These spells are given the way I use them. They are not gospel truth, nor are they set in stone. If something doesn't feel right to you, feel free to modify them as you feel appropriate. On the other hand, don't reject something just because it is new, different or foreign. The more you use these (or any) spell, the more comfortable you will be with them and the stronger the effects will become. Keep learning, keep trying new things, and don't be afraid to ask questions! If you have any questions about this page, or anything else on the website, please ask me!
